“The celebration of Advent is possible only to those who are troubled in soul, who know themselves to be poor and imperfect, and who look forward to something greater to come.”
-Dietrich Bonhoeffer
As we enter into this season of Advent, our hearts take a posture of anticipation at the coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. The origin of "advent" is from the Latin word adventus which simply translates "coming" or "arrival". The Advent calendar this year begins on Sunday, November 29, and ends on Wednesday, December 24. The four Sundays of Advent each have a specific theme or focus - Hope, Love, Joy and Peace.
The purpose of an advent calendar is to create moments of pause in our hurried days - to focus and nurture our heart, mind, body and soul to remind us daily that we are expectantly waiting for something greater to come, the coming of Christ! Let us come before God with a sincere heart and worship him.
Our Advent Calendar is virtual and interactive - click HERE to access it. Each day a new door will be unlocked at midnight to reveal the fun and meaningful activity to do together as a family. We have also created a resource calendar (attached below) allowing you to plan ahead and pick up any materials you may need for the weeks ahead. Many ingredients and supplies are common household items
The lyric, “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices!” from the song O, Holy Night might be the song that captures many of us the most this Christmas season. Our souls may be weary from the challenges of this year, and we are reminded everyday of how imperfect this world is while we long for our eternal home with Christ.
We pray a blessing over you and yours during this beautiful season of Advent. “May the God of hope fill you with all the joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
